Income Tax Department Nudges 12,000 Tax Professionals to Expedite Tax Audit Filings for AY 2026–27

The Income Tax Department has reached out to approximately 12,000 tax professionals under its *‘SAKSHAM NUDGE’ campaign, urging them to complete the pending tax audit report filings within the extended deadline.

🔹 Who has been targeted? Professionals who have filed less than 50% of the tax audit reports (Form 3CD) filed by them in the previous financial year.

🔹 Mode of communication: SMS and emails as part of a data-driven, non-intrusive compliance initiative.

🔹 Extended deadline: October 21, 2026, against the original deadline of September 30, 2026.

🔹 Filings so far: More than 19.5 lakh tax audit reports have reportedly been filed for AY 2026–27.

The takeaway for Chartered Accountants: The Department is increasingly leveraging data analytics and targeted nudges to improve tax compliance, with the focus now extending beyond taxpayers to the professionals facilitating compliance.

Timely completion of tax audits and filing of reports should therefore remain a priority for every tax professional.
