Income-tax Department Introduces Foreign Assets Information Facility
The Foreign Assets Information (FAI) – User Guide (Version 1.0, July 2026) issued by the Directorate of Income Tax (Systems) explains the newly introduced facility on the Income-tax Compliance Portal that enables taxpayers to securely access and download information relating to their foreign financial assets received by the Income-tax Department under international information exchange agreements.
The guide provides step-by-step instructions to download a password-protected PDF, understand the reported information, and submit feedback in case of discrepancies. It also covers activity history, acknowledgements, help resources, and the grievance redressal process.
Key highlights:
- Foreign Assets Information is available from Calendar Year 2022 onwards.
- The report includes details such as foreign bank accounts, account balances, dividend, interest, gross proceeds, and other payments, along with their INR equivalents.
- Due to confidentiality requirements, the information is not displayed on the portal and can only be accessed through a password-protected PDF.
- Taxpayers can submit record-specific feedback using the Transaction Sequence Number (TSN) if the information is incorrect or does not pertain to them.
